PhotographyI’m Kyra Wood, a sports analyst and graduate student in the Broadcast and Digital Journalism program at Syracuse University. As a former student-athlete, I’m passionate about telling stories that go beyond the court and highlight the people, experiences, and moments that make sports meaningful.
My background in athletics gives me a firsthand understanding of the work, pressure, and dedication that athletes bring to their sport. That perspective shapes the way I approach analysis, storytelling, and interviews, allowing me to connect with athletes and coaches in an authentic way.
At Newhouse, I’ve had the opportunity to commentate on my former team, bringing both personal experience and analytical insight to my coverage. I’ve interviewed former student-athletes, using my own experiences to ask thoughtful questions and create stories that feel honest and relatable to audiences to promote engagement with all sports at Syracuse.
In addition to my sports media work, I’ve had the privilege of hosting a conversation with Kathrine Switzer, an experience that strengthened my passion helping guide the conversation of an athlete who broke barriers for women all over the world.
As a sports analyst, I’m especially interested in athlete features, game analysis, and stories that explore the human side of competition. My goal is to create coverage that informs, connects, and gives audiences a deeper understanding of the game and the people who play it.
After graduation, I hope to continue building a career in sports media, through on-air analysis, long-form storytelling and meaningful interviews. My long-term goal is to become a trusted voice in sports coverage and continue telling stories that resonate both on and off the field.
